The Oneonta Orcas, the Oneonta Family YMCA's swim team, will host Norwich at noon Saturday at Oneonta High School.
Despite age-group wins for the D girls (ages 9-10) and the E boys (8-and-youger), the Orcas fell, 386-197, to the visiting Fulton Speed Demons on Nov. 1 at OHS.
Five Oneonta swimmers earned qualifying times for state meet in Buffalo this March.

South New Berlin graduate Greg Walbrecht completed the New York City Marathon last Sunday.
Walbrecht, 39, completed the 26.2-mile event in 4 hours, 25 minutes, 17 seconds and placed 15,199 out of 37,750 finishers. Brazilian Marilson Gomes Dos Santos, 31, won in 2:08:43.
Former Norwich resident Walbrecht competed in high school football, wrestling and basketball and graduated from South New Berlin in 1985. He also received an associate's degree from SUNY Cobleskill. Walbrecht works for a company based in Farmingdale.

Oneonta State raised more than $1,000 to support breast cancer research during its Oct. 30 women's volleyball match against visiting Union College, the Red Dragons announced last week.
All proceeds benefited the Side-Out Foundation in Washington, D.C. Funds are devoted to targeted therapies and molecular profiling, which is where there has been a breakthrough in diagnostics and treatment.
O-State's volleyball team was one of more than 800 programs to host a "Dig Pink" fundraiser this year. The team is still accepting donations at the webpage www.sideoutvolleyball.org/mainevent/minievent/SUNYOneo/.

The Sidney Elks Lodge will hold its annual Free Throw "Hoop Shoot" contest at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Sidney Middle School Gymnasium. The contest is free and open to all Tri-Town area boys and girls ages 8-13.
Local winners in each age-group will advance to district competition in the Binghamton area. States, regionals and nationals will follow.

Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, both recognized greek organizations at Oneonta State, will host a philanthropy bowling event from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Saturday at Holiday Lanes in Oneonta.
Cost is $10 per person and covers three games and a pair of shoes. Each lane can have four-to-five bowlers. All proceeds will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of America and the Robbie Page Memorial Fund.

The Boys and Girls Club of Sidney will host the Platinum Family Radio "No Mercy" Tour, a street basketball event, at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Sidney Central gymnasium.
The NYC Platinum Street Ballers, featuring players such as Johnny Blaze, UPS and D-Nice, will play the Sidney All Stars to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Sidney.
Sidney boys basketball coach Mike Brazee, girls basketball coach Don Pierce and elementary school principal Bob Butcher will compete for the local all-star team, along with many others.
Tickets cost $7 pre-sale and $10 at the door. All proceeds will support the Boys & Girls Club of Sidney.

The Oneonta Boys and Girls Club on River Street will continue its Oneonta Fast Pitch Softball Pitching Camp this Sunday and Nov. 16 and 23.
Session I is for advanced/intermediate pitchers ages 13-18 and runs from 1-2:15 p.m. each Sunday.
Session II also is for advanced/intermediate pitchers ages 13-18 and runs from 2:15-3:30 p.m.
Session III is for beginners ages 8-12 and runs from 3:30-4:45 p.m.
Registration costs $75 for each session, with a $25 discount for pitchers who will participate in sessions I and II ($125 for both).

The Oneonta Boys and Girls Club is accepting registration for its Pickett's Basketball League, which runs from November until March.
The non-competitive league, in its 35th season, is open to youths ages 9-12 who live in Chenango, Delaware and Otsego counties. Youths who play on modified teams are not eligible to participate.
