Sidney grad Simonds has big day for Colgate

The last of Sidney graduate Pat Simonds' college-high 11 catches came with five seconds left and set up the winning field goal in Colgate's 27-24 football victory over visiting Princeton on Saturday.

Simonds, a junior who was a three-time Daily Star First-Team All-Star, caught a 10-yard pass from quarterback Greg Sullivan that moved the ball to Princeton's 16-yard line. Jacob Stein then kicked a 33-yard field goal.

Simonds, a 6-foot-6, 226-pounder, finished with 152 receiving yards, also a college high.

For the season, Simonds has a team-best 38 receptions for 533 yards and two touchdowns.

Colgate (4-2), which has won three straight, plays at Cornell on Saturday.

Meghan Brunswick

Brunswick, an Oneonta High graduate, is a sophomore on the women's golf team at SUNY Cortland.

Brunswick finished seventh out of 76 golfers this past weekend at the Williams College Fall Classic. She shot a 20-over-par 162 for the two-day tournament at the Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, Mass., on Saturday and Sunday. The Red Dragons finished eighth in the 14-team field with a two-day 727. Middlebury won the team title with a 642.

Tony Dilello

Oneonta High graduate Dilello is a senior offensive lineman at American International College in Springfield, Mass.

The 6-foot-3, 325-pound Dilello is starting at right guard for the Yellow Jackets, who improved to 6-0 following a 24-10 victory over visiting Stone Hill on Saturday.

The offensive line has helped AIC's offense to 1,034 rushing yards (172.3 per game) and 1,440 passing yards (240 per game).

Dilello was a Daily Star First-Team All-Star in 2003 and a second-team selection in 2002 for Oneonta.

AIC hosts Pace on Saturday.

Jessica Lorence

and Chynna Pitlock

Lorence (Unadilla Valley) and Pitlock (Milford) are members of the Tompkins-Cortland CC women's soccer team this fall.

Both are freshmen for the Panthers (9-6).

Lorence has two goals and an assist in 15 games. Pitlock has appeared in 12 games, giving up 1.3 goals per game. She's allowed 16 goals and made 45 saves.

Matt Newman

Newman (Unatego) is a junior wide receiver for the Brockport football team.

Newman has 217 yards and a touchdown on 14 catches for the Golden Eagles (2-3).

Unatego graduate Jeff Fazio is a freshman linebacker on the team.

Lauren Payne

Oneonta High graduate Payne is second in scoring for Misericordia University's women's soccer team. Payne has three goals for six points this season.

Payne, a freshman forward, had started 12 of the 13 games she's played in this season for the Cougars (4-9).

Brittany Sines

Afton graduate Sines has three goals and four assists in 11 games for the Wilkes University field hockey team.

Sines is second on the team in scoring for the Colonels (11-1).

Brittany Westcott

Westcott, a Davenport graduate, earned North Eastern Athletic Conference women's soccer honors as student-athlete of the week for the week ending Oct. 5.

Westcott, a sophomore goalie at Cazenovia, earned a shutout Oct. 4 in a 4-0 victory over Cobleskill. She made eight saves. For the season, she has played in 10 games, including six starts. She has a 2.35 goals against average and has made 80 saves.

Freshman Morgan Dutcher (Milford) is a defender on the team and has played in 10 games.

Cazenovia is 5-4-2.

    HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP ... Not only will Cooperstown take a 15-3 record into the Section Three Class C-2 tournament next week, the Redskins also are getting healthier. The Redskins' girls basketball team defeated visiting Waterville, 63-29, and earned the co-championship in Division III of the Center State Conference on Friday. Cooperstown and Hamilton each finished with 9-1 league records.
