CV-S win clinches T-V West title for Laurens

It'll be Cherry Valley-Springfield versus Laurens for the third straight year in the Tri-Valley League boys soccer crossover final.

The Patriots' 3-2 victory at Edmeston on Friday clinched the idle Leopards' third straight West Division championship.

Edmeston (8-5-3, 5-3-2) needed a victory Friday to remain in contention.

The second of Chip Taylor's two goals came with 55 seconds remaining and snapped a 2-all tie. Taylor caught up to a long pass into the box just before Edmeston defender Ryan Giordano and goalie Justin Kucera. Taylor scored into the lower-left corner from 8 yards.

Jared Hamm tied the score for the Panthers with 12:51 left. He took a shot from the left wing that deflected off a CV-S defender and into the goal.

Adam Simmons, who scored Edmeston's first goal, had a chance to put the Panthers ahead, 3-2, with three minutes left, but Ben VanAlstine saved his shot from close range.

Mike Cagganello also scored for East Division champion CV-S (13-3, 9-1), which will play Laurens at 3 p.m. Oct. 18 in the crossover final at the National Soccer Hall of Fame. The Patriots won their first T-V title last season, beating Laurens, 4-3. They also beat Laurens, 2-1, to win their first Section Four Class D final a year ago.

In 2006, Laurens, which has one loss and two ties in league play, defeated CV-S, 2-0, to win the league title.

Edmeston plays at Hamilton at 7 p.m. Thursday.
