Delhi football runs over B-G, 41-8

Jack Fletcher rushed for 255 yards on 31 carries to lead Delhi to a key 41-8 Section Four Football Conference Division VIII victory over host Bainbridge-Guilford on Friday night.

Fletcher had touchdown runs of 3 and 65 yards for the Bulldogs (2-3, 2-0), who can clinch the division title with a win against Hancock next Saturday.

"We'd hit him at the line and sometimes in the backfield and he would break tackles," B-G coach Tim Mattingly said. "He just went. He was something else. He had a great game and he's only a sophomore. I was pretty impressed with that kid."

Delhi led, 21-0, at halftime and opened a 34-0 lead before B-G (4-2, 2-1) got on the board in the fourth quarter.

"They absolutely manhandled us on the offensive and defensive lines," Mattingly said. "They controlled the clock and had long-sustained drives getting 5-6 yards per clip. We had a heck of time stopping them. They just lined it up. They didn't do anything fancy, they just brought it at us. We just couldn't stop them."

Davionne Price had 77 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries for the Bulldogs. Rich Ennist also rushed for a score.

Quarterback Luke Burns completed 4 of 5 passes for 43 yards, including two touchdown passes to Jacob Cipperly.

B-G's Dustin Ross, who leads the area in rushing, was held to 85 yards on 15 carries, including a 46-yard touchdown run in the fourth.

"Whenever we tried to go to the outside, Delhi did a great job containing him and pursuing to the ball," Mattingly said. "They really marked Ross this game. Guys were all over him. His runs came with off-tackle traps. We couldn't get anything to the outside with him."

Brad Hurlburt had 71 yards on 10 carries for the Bobcats, who would clinch a playoff spot if Delhi beats Hancock next Saturday. B-G visits Unatego at 7 p.m. Friday.
