Perfect ending for Delhi tennis

Justine Alwine rallied beat Mina Hoblitz in three sets at third singles to help visiting Delhi to a 5-0 sweep of Sidney in Midstate Athletic Conference girls tennis Thursday.

Alwine dropped the first set, 4-6, before winning the next two, 6-1, 6-2.

The Bulldogs improved to 12-0 overall and 12-0 in the MAC to win the conference title. Delhi defeated 11 of its 12 opponents this season by 5-0 margins.

"We've been playing very strong all year," said Delhi coach Greg Black, whose team allowed its only point to Oxford in a 4-1 win. "We've had a good year."

Carlene Bracci and Sarah Clark also won singles matches. Jackie Prindle and Lindsay Seyforth won at first doubles, and Katherine Bracci and Kyla Roche earned a victory at second doubles.

The Bulldogs play in the Section Four Tournament at 9 a.m. Thursday at SUNY Delhi.

Valerie Ridgway had nine kills and four blocks for Oneonta in a 25-15, 25-14, 25-14 Southern Tier Athletic Conference loss at Johnson City.

Kim Cordova contributed 11 digs and Calla Losie had seven assists for the Yellowjackets (4-8, 4-8), who close their regular season Tuesday at Norwich.
