With all but one starter back from last season's 14-5 team, Cherry Valley-Springfield's unbeaten girls soccer team has emerged as a potential threat to defending Tri-Valley League and Section Four Class D champion Edmeston.
The Patriots received goals from Courtney VanBrink, Hannah Stahl and Joslyn Mabie on Monday to beat visiting Laurens, 3-0, to improve to 8-0 on the season.
"They just have a lot of confidence," CV-S coach Amy Garretson said of her team, which is 6-0 in the Tri-Valley League. "This group has played together for a long time. They know each other and I have a deep bench."
Nadine Guernsey's throughball set up Stahl's goal with 21 minutes, 59 seconds left in the first half to make it 1-0. Stahl and Mabie each scored their first goal of the season.
"We're getting goals from different people and that's always a plus," Garretson said. "People never know where the attack will come from."
Edmeston is also unbeaten at 10-0 and leads the West Division. The two meet Oct. 10.
The Patriots visit Gilbertsville-Mount Upton on Thursday.
