Tigers beat Vermont in season finale

Trevor Feeney pitched seven strong innings as the Oneonta Tigers closed the season with a 2-0 New York-Penn League victory at Vermont on Saturday.

Feeney (3-6) scattered three hits in seven innings. He struck out nine and walked none. Daniel DeLucia earned his first save, striking out three and walking two in two innings. The Lake Monsters (33-42) had two runners reach second.

The Tigers (33-41) finished second in the Stedler Division, 7 1/2 games behind Lowell, which reached the NY-Penn playoffs for the first time.

Oneonta, which won four of its last five games, tied the 2004 O-Tigers for the worst record since the team became affiliated with Detroit in 1999. The worst record in the 43-year history of the franchise came in 1976, when the Oneonta Yankees finished 24-46.

Oneonta staked Feeney a 2-0 lead in the third. With one out, Brandon Douglas reached on a fielding error by third baseman Yeurys Tejada. Ben Guez followed with a single to center to put runners at the corners for Billy Nowlin. He reached on a fielding error by shortstop Dani Arias as Douglas scored and Guez went to second. Wade Lamont then hit an RBI single to right, but Nowlin was thrown out at third.

Douglas, Brent Wyatt and Tyler Weber had Oneonta's other hits.
