{"HeadlineLight14"/}Wambach to appear at Soccer Hall

U.S. Women's National Team forward Abby Wambach will appear at the National Soccer Hall of Fame at 7 p.m. Sept. 27, the Oneonta shrine announced Wednesday. Pittsford native Wambach will discuss the gold medal the U.S. women won while she was sidelined with a broken left leg during the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.

Wambach ranks fifth on the all-time U.S. women's scoring list with 99 goals. She won an Olympic gold in 2004 (Athens), a Women's United Soccer Association title with the Washington Freedom in 2003 and an NCAA Division I crown with the University of Florida in 1998.

Wambach has 99 goals in 127 games, marking the best strike rate in U.S. women's soccer history. She broke her leg in two places during the final pre-Olympics warm-up match for the U.S. this past June.

The Hall announced Wednesday that Wambach expects to play in Women's Professional Soccer, a league that is slated to debut this spring. The Hall will be open from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. on Sept. 27.

The Wambach event is included at no extra charge with a paid museum admission.

The Otsego County Fairgrounds in Morris will host the 13th annual Central New York Stock Car Reunion & Hall of Fame ceremony from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. Ron Cook, Joe Bouck, Jerry Townley, Brent Cobb and Ray Canner will be honored during the event, which also will feature Mid-State Antique Stock Car Club displays, a chicken barbecue and a Red Cross blood drive.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Lower Deck Dash set for Sunday

The annual Lower Deck Dash, a 5-kilometer road race and fundraiser, is scheduled for noon Sunday.

Race-day registration will be accepted from 9:30-11:30 a.m at the Sixth Ward Playground on Scrambling Ave. in Oneonta. Applications are available at the Oneonta Family YMCA and Sport Tech. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Sixth Ward Playground.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Tennis clinics start Monday

The Oneonta Tennis Club will start its afterschool junior clinics Monday. Each weekly clinic lasts 90 minutes and runs for five weeks. The junior-senior high clinic runs from 2:30-4 p.m. Mondays. Elementary clinics run from 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays (girls only) and Thursdays.

Cost is $75 per five-week session.

The OTC will provide transportation from schools to its facility. Youths must be members of the OTC to participate. Fall season memberships cost $90 plus tax.

The OTC will begin weekend junior clinics at 3 p.m. Sept. 14. Sessions will run Sundays from 3-4 p.m. (open to any level) and from 4:30-6 p.m. (tournament only). Cost is $75 for the five-week session, which is only for members.

The OTC will hold a five-week Pee-Wee clinic for youths ages 4-8 starting Tuesday. The first day runs from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Cost is $75 for all five weeks. Sheri Hollohan will teach the clinic, which is open to members and non-members.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}League seeks bowlers, teams

The Victory Bowling League needs teams and bowlers to compete at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Holiday Lanes in Oneonta. The first league meeting is set for 6:15 p.m. this Wednesday.

The Oneonta Board of Women's Basketball Officials and Board 46 are looking for new members this year.

These boards provide referees for area girls and boys modified, junior varsity and varsity basketball games.

Classes for new officials begin soon. The first meeting is Sept. 15 at the Holiday Inn in Oneonta. The Knapp Basketball College Exposure Shootout at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill invites local boys and girls high school players and college coaches to attend its sessions this fall.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Dodgeball league begins soon

The City of Oneonta is accepting registration for its eight-team, co-ed dodgeball league this fall.

The deadline to register is today. Cost is $250 per team. Players must be age 18 to participate.

League play begins Sept. 11 and continues Thursday nights through Nov. 20 at the Asa C. Allison Memorial Building in Oneonta.
