Patriots' boys roll

David Adams scored in the first half to help Cherry Valley-Springfield earn a 3-0 boys soccer victory over Morris in the championship game of the Edmeston Kickoff Tournament on Saturday.

The Patriots (2-0), who won the Section Four Class D championship for the first time in school history last season, also received goals from Elliott See and tournament MVP Chip Taylor.

"I was really happy with our play defensively," CV-S coach Terri Adams said. "Offensively we saw some opportunities and we scored early. We were able to capitalize on those."

CV-S opened the tournament with 1-0 win over Davenport on Friday. Adams said she saw a difference Saturday.

"That first game is getting your bearings and getting adjusted again," she said. "The second game, they seemed more comfortable with their play and their passing."

Ben VanAlstine and Kyle Flint combined for three saves to earn the shutout.
