OBGC to host softball camp

The Oneonta Boys and Girls Club on River Street will host the Oneonta Fast Pitch Softball Pitching Camp on Dec. 2

Session I is for advanced/intermediate pitchers ages 13-18 and will run from 1-2 p.m. Session II also is for advanced/intermediate pitchers ages 13-18 and will run from 2-3 p.m. Session III is for beginners ages 8-12 and is slated for 3-4 p.m.

Registration costs $75 for each session, with a $25 discount for pitchers who will participate in sessions I and II ($125 for both).

Soccer refs to meet Dec. 2

The Oneonta/USSF Soccer Referees' Association will hold an interest meeting for those who wish to become certified soccer referees at 10 a.m. Dec. 2 at the National Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta.

Perch Derby set for Feb. 2

The Oxford Lions Club will host its annual Perch Derby on Feb. 2 on Chenango Lake in Norwich.

Proceeds will help provide eye examinations and eyeglasses for those in need and also benefit the Oxford Food Pantry, the Oxford Memorial Library and many other local groups.

Pre-registration forms will be available at Mayhood's Sporting Goods Store in Norwich and online at www.oxfordlions.org.

The club is also holding a raffle in conjunction with the derby. Tickets can be purchased from any club member and also will be on sale during the derby.

The Oxford Lions Club has 41 members and meets at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at Fred's Inn in Norwich. For more information or to get involved with the club, call Ron Charles at 607-336-3729.

    HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP ... Not only will Cooperstown take a 15-3 record into the Section Three Class C-2 tournament next week, the Redskins also are getting healthier. The Redskins' girls basketball team defeated visiting Waterville, 63-29, and earned the co-championship in Division III of the Center State Conference on Friday. Cooperstown and Hamilton each finished with 9-1 league records.

Center Street Elementary third-grader Tanner made it three in a row Feb. 4, when he won the 8-9 boys age-group title during the 2012 Elks Hoop Shoot State Semifinals at Herkimer County Community College.
