Meet the Outlaws today at Damaschke

The second annual Meet the Outlaws Youth Baseball Clinic will run from 10 a.m.-noon today at Damaschke Field in Oneonta.

Children ages 5-12 are welcome to attend and learn baseball skills from uniformed Oneonta Outlaws players and coaches.

Children should come dressed to play with a hat, mitt and sneakers or rubber/plastic cleats. Children also may bring items for autographs.

Bats, balls and all other equipment will be provided by the Oneonta City Recreation Department and the Outlaws.

YMCA/Outlaws 5K set for today

The Oneonta Family YMCA and the Oneonta Outlaws of the New York Collegiate Baseball League will hold a 5K Fun Run at 6 p.m. Wednesday outside Damaschke Field.

The race ends at home plate at Damaschke Field, which is the home of the Outlaws.

Timing will end at 6:45 p.m. as an Outlaws game will follow at 7 p.m.

Pee Wee football signups July 27

Delhi Pee Wee Football will hold signups from 5:30-6:30 p.m. July 27 at the Clark Companies main office on Route 10 outside of Delhi.

Entry fee is $25 per player and is due at signups. Players must be at least age 8 on or before Dec. 1 and cannot be age 13 on or before Sept. 1.

Ozzie to start HOF Weekend

PLAY Ball with Ozzie Smith will begin the 2011 National Baseball Hall of Fame Weekend at 8 a.m. Friday.

The Hall's education ambassador, Smith will host the 10th annual fundraiser for the museum's educational programs. Fellow Hall of Famers Rod Carew, Andre Dawson and Whitey Herzog will be his featured guests.

The event will feature on-field round-robin interaction with the Hall of Famers and special mementos for participants. It begins with a morning reception in the Hall's Plaque Gallery and continues with photos and stories. PLAY Ball participants will then join the Hall of Famers on a Cooperstown-area field for two hours of instruction.

Cost is $450 for museum members and $600 for non-members. A limited number of spots remain and reservations are required.

Hall of Fame Weekend runs Friday through Monday and will be highlighted by the 2011 Induction Ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Clark Sports Center. Roberto Alomar, Bert Blyleven and Pat Gillick will be inducted this year.

Former New York Mets standouts Dwight Gooden and Howard Johnson will sign autographs in the Holiday Inn Oneonta Ballroom from 7-10 p.m. Friday.

Free basketball workshops in Delhi

The Community Action Network of Delhi will offer free outdoor basketball workshops from 1-3 p.m. Saturdays from this Saturday through Aug. 13 at the Clark Basketball Court in downtown Delhi.

Enrollment is open for players ages 14-22. Participants will learn how to dribble, guard, pass, run the court and build team-oriented skills. The workshops will culminate in a tournament in which the teams, organized by age, will compete in the second annual Bald Eagle Tournament.

O-State golf tournament set for Saturday

Oneonta State's athletics department will host its first Coaches Golf Classic at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Oneonta Country Club.

Cost to enter the captain-and-crew event is $100 per golfer. Competition will be held in two flights and prizes will be awarded to the 1-3 foursomes in each, as well as longest drive and closest to the pin.

Queen of Catskills golf Saturday

The Stamford Women's Golf Association will host its seventh annual Queen of the Catskills Golf Tournament on Saturday at the Stamford Golf Club.

The field already has been filled for this event, which begins with registration at 8 a.m. Saturday. The two-woman scramble tournament will have a 9 a.m. shotgun start.

Players will have a chance to win $10,000 for a hole-in-one on the par-3 eighth hole. Other hole in one prizes include a Nike SUMO driver or irons, a Bose Wave Music System and a $500 Visa gift card.

Spectators may watch the tournament at no cost. The Stamford Golf Club will re-open for play at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Scouts clay target event Saturday

The annual Shoot for Scouts Clay Target Tournament is set for Saturday at the Crumhorn Rod and Gun Club on Crumhorn Mountain Lake Road in Maryland.

The event, which benefits the programs of the Otschodela Council Boy Scouts, will feature target and hunter clay target challenges, food from Brooks House of Bar-B-Q's, prizes and more.

Colonial Ridge to host golf events

Colonial Ridge Golf in Laurens will host the Hartwick/Mt. Vision Methodist Church captain-and-crew tournament at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Cost is $40 per person and includes green fees, cart fees and prize money. The tournament is open to the public and has a 100-percent cash payout.

Laurens to host Summer Fun days

The Laurens Recreation Center will host Summer Fun days from 9-11 a.m. July 30 and Aug. 13.

Golf event Sunday in Oxford

The Blue Stone Golf Course in Oxford will host the first "6 On The Square Golf Outing" at 10 a.m. Sunday.

Cost to enter the captain-and-crew event is $300 per foursome and includes greens fees and cart. Individuals may enter at $75 apiece.

Proceeds will benefit 6OTS' volunteer-based 501(c) 3 service, which offers cultural and educational programs in the community.

Outlaws to hold baseball camps

The Oneonta Outlaws of the New York Collegiate Baseball League will offer baseball camps for youths ages 6-12 at Damaschke Field from 9 a.m.-noon Mondays-Thursdays in July. Cost is $60 per camp and includes 12 hours of instruction and an Oneonta Outlaws T-shirt. Cost is $50 for each additional family member and each additional week of camp.

Players will be grouped based on age and ability. Outlaws manager Greg Zackrison and his players will run the camps.

Hartwick to host summer camps

Hartwick College will offer the following youth camps this summer.

Competitive Swimming III: Rothenberger will run a camp on stroke techniques for boys and girls ages 8-18 from July 24-30. Cost is $545 for residents and $440 for commuters. Those who take part in multiple swimming/diving camps will receive a discount.

Field Hockey: Field hockey coach Anna Meyer will run a camp for players ages 12-18 from July 24-28. Cost is $450 for residents and $375 for commuters.

Volleyball: Volleyball coach Louise Lansing will host a camp for players ages 10-18 from July 31-Aug. 4. Cost is $420 for residents and $365 for commuters.

Headwaters to hold soccer series

The 22nd annual Headwaters Summer Camp Series for area youth soccer players will continue with the New York Central Mutual-Wightman Specialty Woods Camp, which runs July 25-29 at Edmeston Central.

Boys and girls ages 7-17 may participate in the series, which also features team camps. Cost is $60 per week, which includes a T-shirt and a water bottle.

Camps run from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday each week.

Hall Authors' Series continues July 26

The National Baseball Hall of Fame's annual Authors' Series continues July 26.

The program, which will take place in the Hall's Bullpen Theater, runs through Aug. 23. Each installment is included with regular museum admission.

The remaining series schedule is as follows:

July 26: Roger Maris: Baseball's Reluctant Hero by Tom Clavin and Danny Peary, 1 p.m.

Aug. 2: Stan Musial: An American Life by George Vecsey, 1 p.m.

Aug. 9: Cuban Star: How One Negro-League Owner Changed the Face of Baseball by Adrian Burgos Jr., 1 p.m.

Lacrosse camp set for July 27-30

SUNY Delhi will host the High Octane Lacrosse Camp from July 27-30.

Cost is $375 per person for this overnight camp, which is for players ages 8-18.

Davenport Fire Dept. 5K is July 30

The ninth annual Davenport Fire Department 5K run will start at 10 a.m. July 30.

Race-day registration will run from 8:30-9:45 a.m. in front of Charlotte Valley Central on Route 23 in Davenport.

Runners who register by July 23 are guaranteed a T-shirt and will pay a reduced entry fee of $15. Cost is $20 for those who register after July 23. The entry fee for all students is $10.

O-State to host soccer camp

Oneonta State men's soccer coach Iain Byrne will run the Red Dragons' 36th annual summer soccer camp from Aug. 1-5 at the Wright National Soccer Campus in Oneonta.

The Dragon Camp (ages 6-14) and the Elite Camp (high school players only) will run from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. daily. Both camps are open to boys and girls.

Cost is $125 per week, with a $10 discount for additional family members. The camp will offer free supervision starting at 8 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m. each day.

Baseball Hall accepting film entries

The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown is accepting entries for the sixth annual Baseball Film Festival, which runs Sept. 30-Oct. 2.

Entry deadline is Aug. 5. Films may be any length and genre but must have been released within the last five years and feature baseball as a primary or secondary theme.

To submit a film, send two DVD copies to Manager of Museum Programs, National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, 25 Main Street, Cooperstown, NY, 13326. Films selected will be screened at the Hall during the festival.

Pigskin Classic set for Aug. 5-7

The 2011 Chenango County Pigskin Classic is accepting applications for its 7-on-7 youth football tournament, which runs Aug. 5-7 in North Norwich.

The 20-team event is open to youths ages 13-18, who will compete in divisions for ages 13-15 and 18-and-under.

Cost is $250 per team, with a minimum of 10 player and a maximum of 12. High school teams are welcome.

Local track meet Aug. 9

Hurley's Heroes Track Club of Oneonta will host its final twilight track and field meet of the summer at Oneonta State at 7 p.m. Aug. 9.

Age-groups will compete in the 50-meter dash, 100, 400, 800, the mile and 3,000. Various age-groups will run the 200, and a high-jump competition will be held if facilities are available.

City Parks Tennis Tournament set

The City of Oneonta Recreation Department is accepting registration for the City Parks Tennis Tournament, a United States Tennis Association-sanctioned event that runs from Aug. 12-14.

Participants must be current members of the USTA to play in the tournament, which is single-elimination and includes men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles.

Registration fee is $10 per player and covers entry into multiple divisions. Entry fee is due at the time of registration via check or money order payable to the City of Oneonta.

Entry forms are available at the website www.oneonta.ny.us/recreation and at the Recreation Office in Neahwa Park. Registrations must be received by the Recreation Office by 5 p.m. Aug. 5.

Headwaters to host golf tournament

The Headwaters Soccer Club will host the third annual Ouleout Creek Charity Golf Tournament at 8 a.m. Aug. 13 to benefit its soccer camp program.

The City of Oneonta Recreation Department will host the 32nd annual Volkswagen Open Tennis Tournament from Aug. 15-21 at the George R. Waddington Tennis Courts in Wilber Park.

This single-elimination event features men's singles, men's doubles, women's singles. women's doubles and mixed doubles divisions.

Registration fee is $10 (unlimited divisions). Entries must include a check or money order (cash will not be accepted). Entry deadline is one week before the tournament begins.

Baseball camp to run Aug. 15-19

The All Pro Sports Academy Summer Baseball Camp will run from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 15-19 at Doc Knapp Field in Oneonta.

The camp is for players ages 5-12. Cost is $185 for those who register before July 1 and $195 thereafter. A 10-percent discount is available siblings. Registration deadline is Aug. 1.

Campers should bring gloves, bats, hats, long pants, cleats, sneakers, lunch, sunblock and catcher's gear (if appropriate).

Rotary golf tournament Aug. 28

The second annual Cooperstown Rotary Foundation Golf Tournament will start at 3 p.m. Aug. 28 at the nine-hole Otsego Golf Course.

Entry fee is $45 per person for the best-ball tournament and includes greens fees, cart, food and beverages at the awards ceremony and reception following play.

The tournament also features a putting contest on the practice green next to the clubhouse.

Cash and gift certificates will be awarded for first, second and third places, as well as the closest-to-the-pin winner on the ninth hole. The team with the highest score will receive a consolation prize.

Foursomes are encouraged to enter, but individuals and couples are welcome as well.

Hole, beverage cart and reception sponsorships are available at $100 each.

Colonial Ridge tourney Aug. 31

Colonial Ridge Golf in Laurens will host the Otsego County and Delaware County Retired Teachers Associations' NOT Going Back-to-School golf tournament at 8 a.m. Aug. 31.

All retired educators and guests are invited to play in the captain-and-crew event, which features 18 holes, a golf cart and lunch. Those who do not golf are invited to lunch at 1 p.m.

Cost is $35 for golf and lunch, or $14 for lunch.
