CV-S Hall ceremony set for Friday

The Cherry Valley-Springfield Athletic Hall of Fame will induct three members and a team of distinction during the annual CV-S Athletic Awards Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Terry Brant (Class of 1988), Therijo (Snyder) Climenhaga (1988) and Kristen Karhio (2002) will be inducted with the 1987 varsity girls soccer team.

Now the Patriots' boys basketball coach, Brant is the only 1,000-point scorer in the history of the CV-S boys basketball program.

Climenhaga led the 1986 girls soccer team in scoring and is one of the top girls goal scorers in Section Four history.

Karhio won a Federation title in the pentathlon during the 2002 state track and field championships. She also won the C-D state title in the pentathlon in 2000.

The 1987 girls soccer team reached the Class D state championship game and finished as runner-up in CV-S' first year as a school.

The CV-S Hall started last year with the induction of longtime athletic director Karen Whiteman.

Unatego club to host golf tourney

The Unatego Touchdown Club will host its fourth annual golf tournament at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ouleout Creek Golf Course in Franklin.

Cost to play in the captain-and-crew is $200 per team and includes greens fees, cart and lunch.

Payout is $300 for first place, $200 for second and $100 for third. An additional $250 will be awarded for the first hole-in-one.

Headwaters soccer to host golf events

The Headwaters Soccer Club will host two scramble golf tournaments to benefit its summer camp program.

The 19th annual Hank Hotaling Charity Golf Tournament starts at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Stamford Golf Club.

The fourth annual Ouleout Creek Charity Golf Tournament begins at 1 p.m. Aug. 11 in Franklin.

Cost is $50 per person and includes greens fees, cart and buffet. Players may register as teams or individuals.

The top three teams will receive awards.

Tri-Valley Colts golf tourney Saturday

Colonial Ridge Golf in Laurens will host the Tri-Valley Colts Father's Day Parent-Child Captain-and-Mate at 8 a.m. Saturday.

The cost for the tournament is $50 per 14-and-under team and $60 per 15-and-over team. Prize money, skins, pin shots and a barbecue lunch are included. Greens fees and carts cost extra, but youths ages 12-and-under will play and ride for free.

Eligible pairings are parent/child, grandparent/grandchild; parent in-law/child in-law; and aunt or uncle/nephew or niece.

Unadilla MX events continue in June

The 2012 schedule for Unadilla MX in New Berlin includes the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship Weekend, which will run Aug. 17-19 at the Unadilla Valley Sports Complex.

A District 3 MX event is set for Sunday, followed by the ATV MX National Weekend from July 13-15.

The season will close with the Sept. 15-16 Grand National Cross Country.

Softball tournament set for Sunday

The Otego Little League Fields will host a big ball softball tournament on Sunday to benefit the Komenda family.

The tournament will feature youth and adult divisions. Mixed teams (youths and adults) also may enter. Each team should have at least 10 players.

Entry fee is $200 per team. Proceeds will help Trevor Komenda, who was hit by a train Memorial Day Weekend and is recovering at Upstate Hospital in Syracuse, and his family.

Tournament organizers also are accepting donations of food (soda, water, hotdog and hamburger buns, small bags of chips) and items for baskets to raffle off (gift cards, lottery tickets, crafts, etc.).

Summer lacrosse begins Monday

Lacrosse Oneonta will begin its 2012 season Monday.

The recreational summer lacrosse league will run from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays through Aug. 15 at Sixth Ward Booster Club Park (across from the Boys and Girls Club). Instructional league play begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by adult competitive play from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Sign-ups are scheduled for 6-8 p.m. June 11 and 13. Players must have a USLacrosse membership, which costs $25-50 and is available online at www.uslacrosse.org.

Cost to participate in Lacrosse Oneonta is an additional $45 and includes a reversible jersey.

Each player also must have a stick, a helmet, shoulder pads, arm guards, gloves and a mouthpiece.
