Arms fair to run this weekend

The Tremperskill Hunting and Fishing Club will sponsor an arms fair and sportsman show Saturday and Sunday at Fisk Auctions in Andes.

Showtimes are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday. Daily admission is $5 or $7 with one raffle book.

All firearms sales and NICS background checks must be conducted through available dealers inside the building. No private sales, trades or barters for firearms are allowed on the Fisk Auctions property.

Luther, Clement win bass event

Bob Luther and Jim Clement won the Susquehanna Bass Association’s Gordon B. Roberts Agency Open Bass Tournament last Sunday on Canadarago Lake.

Luther and Clement caught five fish weighing 16.23 pounds, edging Rob and Bridgett DeMott’s 16.19 pounds for the top spot. Rob DeMott caught the lunker of the day (4.35 pounds).

Mike Barse and Vic VanSteenburg placed third with five fish weighing 12.75 pounds. Allan and Peter Green finished fourth with a limit weighing 10.85 pounds.

Steve Llewellyn caught the big smallmouth of the day (2.80 pounds).

The SBA will host the Peggy Parker Real Estate Open from 6:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Sept. 9 on Onondaga Lake.

Tennis Club to open Monday

The Oneonta Tennis Club will open for the 2012 Fall-Winter season on Monday.

Junior clinics are scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays after school, and Sunday afternoons.

The club will offer an all-inclusive pass that covers membership, open court times, league fees and tournaments for $450. The pass will expire Dec. 31.

Swim class open to seniors

SUNY Delhi’s water-exercise classes will be open to seniors citizens from Monday through Sept. 27, from 5-6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Modified practices start Tuesday

Oneonta High will begin modified practices Tuesday at the following times and sites.

Modified girls swimming, 9 a.m. at OHS.

Modified football, 2:30 p.m. at OHS.

Modified volleyball, 2:30 p.m. at Oneonta Middle.

Modified cross country, 3 p.m. at OHS track.

Modified boys soccer, 3:30 p.m. at Oneonta Middle.

Modified girls soccer, 4:30 p.m. at OHS.

To play a sport, athletes must sign up at the high school or the middle school nurse’s office.

Delhi pool hours for Sept. 3-9

SUNY Delhi announced its pool will be open at the following times from Sept. 3-9.

Lap swim, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Open swim, 7-9 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 1-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

OLL to offer fall baseball

Oneonta Little League will offer a fall baseball program for children ages 8-11 (as of May 1, 2012) on Saturdays from Sept. 8-Oct. 20.

Registration runs from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Doc Knapp Field. Players will be contacted by a coach Sept. 6 with team assignment, practice plans, etc.

Cost is $10 per player. Teams will play six to seven Saturday-afternoon games and may practice during the week. An occasional doubleheader is possible. Rainouts will not be rescheduled.

Lifeguards to meet Wednesday

SUNY Delhi will hold a mandatory training session for lifeguards and water safety instructors at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kunsela Hall Pool.

Participants should be ready to swim and must bring lifeguard certifications, fall 2012 schedules and three forms of identification.

SUNY Delhi also will host a Swimming & Diving Team Interest Meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 in the lounge next to the pool.

Voting for Frick Award under way

Online voting for fan selections for the 2013 Ford C. Frick Award ballot will continue until 5 p.m. Sept. 7 on the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s Facebook website, www.facebook.com/baseballhall.

The Frick Award is presented annually during Hall of Fame Induction Weekend for excellence in baseball broadcasting. A total of 222 people who have broadcast at least 10 consecutive years for a team or network are eligible for consideration in fan voting.

The top 40 vote-getters will advance to the Fan Finals to determine three of the 10 names that will comprise the ballot, which will be considered by the Frick Award Committee this fall. The second round of fan voting will run from Sept. 10-Oct. 5, at the Hall’s website and Facebook page. The final ballot, featuring three fan selections and seven candidates determined by a Hall committee, will be announced Oct. 9.

The 2013 Frick winner will be selected by a 21-member electorate and will be announced during baseball’s Winter Meetings in early December. The Frick electorate includes all living Award winners and five historians/veteran media members appointed by the Hall.

Bowling league starts Sept. 7

The T.G.I.F. Mixed Bowling League will start at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 7.

The sanctioned, four-player team league is seeking teams and single bowlers. Any combination of men and women is acceptable.

Youth Day set for Sept. 8

The Adirondack-Catskill Chapter of Safari Club International will hold its second Youth Day from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Otego Rod and Gun Club on Secor Road in the Town of Otego.

Events include fly tying with members of the Chenango Valley and Brant Chapters of Trout Unlimited, BB gun shooting at targets with hunter-safety instructors, turkey calling, crossbow shooting and compound-bow archery shooting.

Hot dogs, hamburgers and Margaret Smith’s chili will be served at the free event.
