Five area initiatives are among 12 housing rehabilitation and community development projects under way, according to a recent media release from the Mohawk Valley Regional Economic Development Council.
Officials have signed contracts with the state in the first stages of $3,945,300 in awards from Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Regional Council initiative, according to the release issued Aug. 3, and these projects will restore and rehabilitate homes.
The release listed local projects:
"¢ $400,000 to the town of Gilboa in Schoharie County through the Community Development Block Grant program to rehabilitate 16 substandard housing units.
"¢ $400,000 to the Otsego Rural Housing Assistance Inc. through the HOME program to repair 24 homes for low-income homeowners.
"¢ $278,000 to Otsego Rural Housing Assistance Inc. through the Affordable Housing Corp. program to improve about 25 homes in Otsego County.
"¢ $237,500 to Otsego Rural Housing Assistance Inc. through the Access to Home program to make accessibility improvements to 24 homes of elderly or disabled residents.
"¢ $65,000 to Otsego Rural Housing Assistance Inc. through the Residential Emergency Services to Offer Repairs to the Elderly program to make repairs for 22 elderly homeowners.
