Traffic stop leads to arrest on felony drug charge

An Oneonta man faces a felony marijuana charge after state police said he was stopped for speeding on the state Thruway with about 5½ pounds of the drug concealed in the trunk of his car, Thruway troopers said Friday.

Justin A. Jones, 23, told troopers he lived at 158 Main St., Oneonta, and was a student at the State University College of Oneonta when he was arrested Wednesday while apparently headed from New York City to Saratoga Springs, troopers said.

Jones was pulled over in the town of Guilderland, Albany County, for driving 65 mph through a work zone posted for 55 mph, Investigator John Kelly said.

Troopers discovered the marijuana in vacuum-sealed bags after Jones consented to a search of the vehicle, Kelly said.

Arraigned in Guilderland Town Court on a charge of second-degree marijuana possession, Jones was held at Albany County jail on $15,000 bail, troopers reported.
