Chenango deputies: Two hurt in motorcycle crash

Two people were injured after being thrown from a motorcycle that hit a deer on county Road 44 in the town of North Norwich at about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, a media release from Chenango County deputies said.

William Ulrich Sr., 70, of South Otselic, was operating the motorcycle when it struck a deer in the roadway, deputies said, and Ulrich lost control of the vehicle.

He and his passenger, Roberta Ulrich, no age given, were thrown from the motorcycle, deputies said in the release issued Wednesday.

He was taken to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse by Mercy Flight helicopter for treatment of serious head and chest injuries, deputies said, and she was taken by the Norwich ambulance crew to Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich for treatment of arm and leg injuries. Both motorcyclists were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, deputies said.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Norwich Fire Department, the Plymouth Fire Department and the Chenango County Bureau of Fire.
