COMMENTING ON STORIES:

Thompson Square is this year's headliner for the Delaware County Fair.

The husband-and-wife duo -- whose hit single "Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not" was one of the most played songs on country radio in 2011 -- are scheduled to take the stage 7:30 p.m. Aug. 18, fair board President Danny Hodges said. Aaron Kelly, one of the runners-up in the 2010 "American Idol" season, will be opening the show. Tickets will be on sale in early April.

Hodges said he has been trying to land the headliner since September. It was hard to get a commitment because the country band is so popular. The group came to his attention as the opening act for Lady Antebellum, who headlined the fair in 2010.

"They are the kind of music we are trying to find," he said. As the fair did with Lady Antebellum, "we try to catch them just before they get so big that we can't afford them," he said.

Once they start to receive major awards, "a little fair can't touch them," he said. He did not want to say what their appearance fee would be.

He saw the opener in Rochester at a state convention, and Kelly was very entertaining and a good addition to the lineup, he said.
