Area musicians to square off in Andes Battle of the Bands

Six area bands will duke it out on Saturday in Delaware County as the inaugural Andes Battle of the Bands gets under way at 2 p.m.

Conceived by Andes Fire Chief Joe Berghammer and spearheaded by community organization Andes Works!, the competition will offer cash prizes for the top three bands.

The event is open to the public at no charge; for those who aren't able to attend, WIOX radio will host a live broadcast. Barbecue and beverages will be available for purchase.

Signed up to compete in the battle are The Mutton Chop 5 of Cooperstown; Avid Rox of Walton; P2 of Stamford; Nuclear Fusion, also of Stamford; Hello, Seattle of Oneonta; and Atlas Arrows of Binghamton.

A panel of judges will crown the winning group, who will receive $250.

Second- and third-place prizes will be $100 and $50 respectively.

The battle will take place at the Andes Fire Pavilion on Tremperskill Road.
