Man pleads guilty to manslaughter

A Deposit man who was scheduled to go to trial Tuesday in Delaware County Court for second-degree murder pleaded guilty Thursday to a lesser charge.

Andrew Hafele, 29, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the Sept. 17 death of Michael J. Mills Jr., a court official said.

Hafele was returned to Delaware County jail pending sentencing on Aug. 6.

He faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison and five years' post-release supervision.

Mills was found dead in a shed next to Hafele's home.

Hafele was accused of getting into a physical altercation with Mills and striking him multiple times with a hammer.
