Family activities to accompany Hall of Fame Classic Weekend

The Hall of Fame Classic Weekend, which begins Saturday, will include more than just baseball, according to a media release from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

The Hall has added the Cooperstown Classic Fest, a day of public programs, entertainment and vending, to the weekend schedule. From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, the Doubleday Field parking lot will feature local vendors, live entertainment, food, exhibitors from area businesses and family-friendly activities, involving more than 30 area businesses.

At the Hall of Fame, hands-on and interactive programs, including clinics, demonstrations and events, will be offered from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The Legends for Youth Skills Clinic will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday on Doubleday Field.

The Cooperstown Classic Fest is a collaboration of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, the Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce and the village of Cooperstown.

Sunday's Hall of Fame Classic game, featuring Hall of Famers Andre Dawson, Goose Gossage, Phil Niekro, Tony Pérez, Jim Rice, Ozzie Smith and Dick Williams, will begin at 2 p.m. The Cooperstown Game Day Parade will precede the game at noon on Main Street.
