COOPERSTOWN -- The case involving five Cooperstown High School football players charged with harassing a teammate after practice in September has been transferred to Hartwick Town Court, officials said Monday.
The youths were originally scheduled to answer the charges Monday night in Otsego Town Court. But the two newly elected justices for Otsego Town Court both cited conflicts in asking to be recused from the case.
Otsego Court Judge Brian Burns on Friday signed an order authorizing the case to go to Hartwick Town Court.
The case has been assigned to Judge Maria Folts.
The youths have been charged with second-degree harassment, a non-criminal violation.
Cooperstown Central School Superintendent C.J. Hebert, without identifying the students involved in the alleged incident, said those found to have been responsible have faced "appropriate penalties" from school authorities.
