Oxford man in critical condition after two-vehicle accident

A local man was in critical condition after a two-vehicle accident in the town of Oxford on Tuesday afternoon, Chenango County deputies said.

Steven D. Allen, 60, of Oxford, was taken to Wilson Regional Medical Center in Johnson City, deputies said.

He was listed in serious condition, a hospital spokesman said at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The crash at about 3:40 p.m. Tuesday was at the intersection of state Highway 220 and county Road 35, deputies said in a media release.

Allen was stopped at a flashing red light but drove through the intersection without yielding the right of way to another vehicle driven by James A. Dann, 40, of Bainbridge, deputies said, and Dann's vehicle struck the driver's side of Allen's vehicle.

Dann was uninjured, deputies said.

The Oxford Police Department, the Oxford Fire Department, Cooperstown Medical Transport and LifeNet Medical Helicopters assisted at the scene.

Deputies said the investigation continues.
