Fulton woman faces grand larceny charge

A Schoharie church treasurer was arrested Thursday for taking funds from her organization, Schoharie deputies said.

Emma Maxwell, 54, of Fulton, was charged with second-degree grand larceny, deputies said.

The arrest was made following an investigation into larceny of more than $100,000 from the Breakabeen/North Blenheim Presbyterian Church, deputies said.

She was arraigned in Middleburgh Town Court and jailed on $5,000 cash, or $10,000 secured bond. She is to appear in Fulton Town Court Jan. 31, deputies said.

Carlisle man arrested for rape, endangering a child

A Carlisle man was arrested on rape charges Thursday following an investigation into an inappropriate relationship with an underage girl, Schoharie deputies said.

Thomas Mercer, 18, was charged with second-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child, deputies said. He was arraigned in Cobleskill Town Court and released to return to Cobleskill Town Court on Feb. 8, deputies said.
