— The Delaware County 911 Center received a call at approximately 6:40 a.m. Wednesday, apparently from Willis Brown of the Village of Franklin, saying he had killed his wife, according to a media release today from Delaware County Undersheriff Craig DuMond.
DuMond said the call came from a "male subject calling from the Brown residence located at 123 Main Street in the Village of Franklin. The caller reported that he had
killed his wife, Wendy, and would be taking his own life.
"A local, off-duty Delaware County Sheriff's Deputy was contacted by 911 and
immediately responded to the scene," the release said. "Upon arrival, the deputy discovered both
Wendy and Willis Brown, both 58 years of age, deceased within the residence.
"Investigation and a forensic autopsy have established that that Wendy Brown
died as a result of a gunshot wound. The manner of her death has been ruled a
homicide," the release said. "A forensic autopsy has established that Willis Brown died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound."
The release said that deputies and members of the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division were
assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, Troop “C”, Forensic
Identification Unit.
"At this time," the release said, "the motive for this tragic incident remains uncertain."
