The theater addition to the Foothills Performing Arts and Civic Center was center stage in an awards ceremony Wednesday.
State officials presented a NYSERDA "High Performance Building" plaque to the center in recognition of energy-efficient measures incorporated into the new performing arts theater, which will help cut its energy costs by more than $65,000 annually, a media release said.
The 25,000-square-foot addition to the Foothills complex on Market Street has a theater, stage, scenery area and large atrium.
The three-year project was supported by $140,000 in incentives from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, which presented the award.
"Reducing energy consumption and striving for efficiencies wherever possible are environmentally sound and fiscally responsible," state Sen. James L. Seward, R-Milford, said in the release.
The funding supported a variety of energy-saving measures, including insulation, lighting controls, heat-recovery equipment and high-efficiency motors, among others, the release said.

NYSERDA, Foothills and Novus Engineering helped to minimize adverse environmental impacts associated with the construction project.
"Foothills is proud to be part of only 33 projects statewide to receive this award," Doug Reeser, president of Foothills Performing Arts and Civic Center, said in a prepared statement. He acknowledged efforts that made the award possible.
The plaques are presented to hospitals, libraries, schools, businesses and organizations that have constructed buildings designed to perform at least 30 percent above the state energy conservation construction code, the release said, and the Foothills Performing Arts theater's energy conservation is rated at more than 50 percent above code.
