Oswego Co. man charged with hate crime
A Lacona man was arrested Thursday after shouting racial slurs at a man by the Southside Dam, state police at Oneonta said.
Corey R. Fellers, 27, was charged with third-degree assault as a hate crime, a felony, two counts of disorderly conduct and acting in a manner dangerous to a child younger than 17, troopers said. The latter charge pertained to the victim's sons, who were nearby. Fellers allegedly approached the man, who troopers did not identify, several times. The third time, Fellers swung his fist at the man, who pinned him to the ground until troopers arrived. He was released on bail.
Deposit man charged with rape
A local man was charged Friday with rape, state police at Deposit said in a media report.
Maurice J. Brown, 38, of Deposit, was charged with second-degree rape, a felony, which is filed when the actor is at least 18 and the victim is younger than 15, troopers said.
Brown was arrested in connection with an incident reported July 14, and he was held on cash bail, the report said.
Two arrested in New Berlin for pot plants
A New Berlin couple were arrested for growing marijuana after police responded to a hang-up call at their home, state police at Oneonta said.
Alyssa N. Patrick, 27, and Ronald J. Menard, 34, were charged Friday with unlawfully growing cannabis, after troopers found 12 plants behind their house. They were issued appearance tickets to be in court at a later date.
SUNY Oneonta to host state surplus auction
A state vehicle and equipment surplus auction is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at SUNY Oneonta, according to a media release from the state Office of General Services.
