Wintery storm could hit area this week

Wintry storm could hit area this week

A light snow fell over most of the region Saturday night, offering a possible prelude to a stronger storm forecast to hit the area later this week.

The National Weather Service in Binghamton issued an advisory Sunday for a possible early season winter storm developing Wednesday and continuing into Thursday.

According to the NWS, a low-pressure system is expected to develop off the southeast coast Tuesday and track northeast up the coast to become a major winter storm. The storm could bring significant snow to the area, but the advisory cautioned that it was too early to determine more specific snowfall amounts.

The NWS recommends travelers monitor emergency radio and other forecasts. Updates are available online at weather.gov/bgm, and on Facebook under “National Weather Service Binghamton.”
