Three SUNY Oneonta projects receive grant funding

Three SUNY Oneonta projects are among 48 recipients of the 2012 Innovative Instruction Technology Grants program, which funds campus innovations and initiatives that have the potential to be replicated throughout the SUNY system.

A recent media release said recipients at the State University College at Oneonta were:

- Martha Growdon, assistant professor of Earth and atmospheric sciences, for "Evaluating Geologic Mapping Tools for the Undergraduate Curriculum  Brian Lowe, associate professor of sociology, for "Big Data on a Small(er) Campus: Use of Large-Scale Text Analysis by a Comprehensive Primarily Undergraduate Institution"; and

- Sen Zhang, associate professor of mathematics, computer science and statistics, for "Automating Production of PowerPoint-Based Algorithm Visualization Teaching Materials."

"Being a leader in teaching with distinction and innovation is one of our most important strategic goals," Maria Thompson, SUNY Oneonta provost, said in a media release. "We're pleased to have SUNY's support, and we look forward to sharing advances made by our faculty with educators across the university system, and beyond."

IITG is a competitive grants program open to SUNY faculty and support staff across all disciplines. Grant recipients will openly share project outcomes, enabling SUNY colleagues to replicate and build upon an innovation.

"This new competitive grants program will enable partnerships across SUNY to leverage technology as a means to educate students," SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher said. "It serves as an excellent example of the power of SUNY to realize efficiencies through the sharing of resources and instructional partnerships within our system."
