Goodyear Lake Day will be celebrated with a festival from 10 a.m. until dark Saturday. Daytime activities will take place at Krol Field, on Lakeshore Drive South in Milford. The event is open to the public and co-sponsored by the Goodyear Lake Association and the Goodyear Polar Bear Jump.
According to a media release, the festival celebrates natural resources of the lake, the land and the spirit of community. State Sen. James Seward, R-Milford, and local town and county officials will be there to meet and greet. Local organizations such as the Milford Rotary, Milford Legion and Milford Library will have booths. There will be games and activities throughout the day, including art and environmental activities by the Oneonta World of Learning and the Goodyear Lake Association.
Renderings of a proposed public launch site and educational walkway on state Route 28 in Portlandville, developed through the state office of Parks and Recreation and Department of Environmental Conservation, will be on display.
At 10:15 a.m., the Goodyear Lake Polar Bear Jump will host a 5K walk and run, with registration beginning at 8:30. Proceeds will benefit the Goodyear Lake Polar Bear Jump fund, an organization dedicated to helping children, individuals and organizations in need. Call Melissa at 286-9879 for additional information.
There will be a classic car parade and show featuring classic cars owned by Milford residents, and a children's parade. A raffle will be conducted for seaplane rides over the lake provided by Geoff Nye, professional pilot and flying instructor.
There will be exhibits and demonstrations featuring the Milford Fire Department and Emergency Squad, Otsego County Cooperative Extension, Master Gardeners, Otsego County Conservation Association, Otsego County Soil and Water and Allied Biological.
The Blue Ribbon Cloggers will perform, along with the band Country Express. Food, beverages, and ice cream will be available throughout the day as well as vendors featuring crafts and collectibles.
The day's events will end with a lighted boat parade around the lake and a fireworks display.
The Goodyear Association was formed in 1921 and this year celebrates 91 years of caring for the lake and the land, and fostering a sense of community. In recent years the group has been actively involved in protecting the quality of the water by working to remove invasive species from the lake. The association was awarded grants from the state to assist in those efforts.
