South Worcester barn fire kills 120 cows
An estimated 120 cows died in a weekend fire that destroyed a South Worcester barn, authorities have reported.
The blaze at 298 County Route 40 was reported at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and declared under control just before 1 p.m., said Robert J. O’Brien, assistant coordinator of the Otsego County Office of Emergency Services.
O’Brien said the main part of the barn burned to the ground.
Units from the Worcester Fire District fought the blaze with the assistance of fire departments from East Worcester, Westford, Schenevus, Milford, Davenport and East Meredith, with Richmondville on standby, O’Brien said Tuesday.
