Main Street Oneonta will be the stage for fine arts music Saturday with the 10th annual City of the Hills Arts Festival. The event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., also includes crafts, food fun. It is hosted by the Community Arts Network of Oneonta, which evolved from the Upper Catskill Community Council of the Arts earlier this year. "It was important to maintain the event that the arts' organization had been identified with," CANO President Raina Damico said. "It's a big commitment for us, but we are excited to do it." The festival opens at 9 a.m. between Chestnut Street Ford Avenue, there will be a variety of musical entertainment activities throughout the day. This includes the Sweet Adelines at the festival event stage from 10:40 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Colby Thomas also will take the stage, from 3 to 3:30 p.m., former Ultimate Idol finalist Ethan Harris will perform. There will also be a children's tent. There are 25 artists crafts people exhibiting their works for sale. A panel of three judges will be evaluating the participants from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., their selections will be announced at 1:45 p.m. Making the decisions are: Christine Alexander, an accomplished artist from East Meredith; Phil Young, a professor of art history at Hartwick College; Pamela Strother, an area collector art appreciator who engages in arts fundraising. Main Street Oneonta, a group dedicated to promoting downtown, is supporting the event. Five Star Subaru has been generous in promoting the event on its television commercials, Damico said. Oneonta Mayor Dick Miller, who is scheduled to make announcements at 2 p.m., has been supportive as well, she said. Miller said he supports any time an organization such CANO brings people to downtown. "I am very enthusiastic grateful. It showcases the area," not only for the community but also for those who are visiting, he said. "I am pleased by their re-emergence. The community needs an organization that brings the visual arts community together."
