Council set to vote on renewal of development contract

The Common Council is set to vote tonight on renewing the downtown development contract held by the Otsego County Economic Development office.

The city signed a 2½-year contract with the county office in mid-2009 for $45,000 annually. The following year, Otsego County Economic Development partnered with Main Street Oneonta, a downtown merchants group, to create a $20,000 Main Street coordinator position to plan and promote activities downtown.

Last year, when Julia Goff replaced David Hayes in that position, the annual contract for the coordinator's position was increased to $25,000.

The deal combines the original downtown development contract and the coordinator position into one budget item, Mayor Dick Miller said.

Funding was set aside for it in the 2012 budget. No additional funding is being allocated for the services, Miller said Monday.

There will also be no change in the scope of services, he said.

The Common Council will meet at 7 p.m. in City Hall. A reception for the 2012 Women's Trailblazer Award winner, Margery Merzig, will be held from 6:30 to 7 p.m. in the lobby.

In other business at the council meeting, there are two mayor's public hearings scheduled on measures previously passed by council members. One is Ordinance No. 2 of 2012, which amends administrative fees under the housing cause. The second is Local Law No. 1 of 2012, which amends how appeals to the Board of Public Service are handled.

There is also a public hearing scheduled on the 2012 state Community Development Block Grant Program. The hearing is slated to focus on community needs, priorities and possible projects.
