---- — Man arrested
after accidentally shooting self
An investigation into a Nov. 22 shooting incident in the town of Esperance led to the arrest of an Esperance man, according to state Department of Environmental Conservation police.
Timothy E. Kelly, 47, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class C felony, and hunting deer with a .22-caliber rimfire ammunition, a violation of state environmental conservation law, police said.
The incident happened as follows, police said: Kelly was deer hunting with a relative. While approaching a deer he had legally shot, he accidentally dropped a .22-caliber revolver, which then discharged a round, striking him in the buttocks. He was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Kelly did not have a valid state pistol permit for the unregistered handgun, police said. They were assisted in the case by Schoharie deputies.
