Village elections were conducted Tuesday, and while many villages had uncontested votes, the race for mayor of Gilbertsville ended in a tie, and just one vote separated the mayoral candidates in the Delaware County village of Hancock.
If the Gilbertsville tie stands, the village trustees would have to schedule a runoff, Clerk Nicki McNeil said Wednesday. The trustees’ next meeting will be Monday, she said, and earliest a runoff could happen would be April 2.
The Delaware County Board of Elections has been asked to re-canvass the Hancock mayoral vote. It now has five business days to do so, village Clerk Phyllis Falsetta said.
Among the villages with contested races, Delhi Mayor Richard Maxey won re-election over challenger Gerry Pilgrim, 162 to 89. In Margaretville, Diana L. Cope won the mayoralty, replacing John Van Benschoten, who, along with Iris Mead, won a two-year term on the board of trustees.
