A former Milford town man has been indicted by an Otsego County grand jury and arrested by deputies for allegedly failing to register as a sexual offender, a media release said.
Francisco Torres, 34, of Luther Street in Oneonta, was charged Friday with two counts of failure to register as a sexual offender, a felony, deputies said.
In February, members of the sheriff’s Office of Criminal Investigation Division were conducting random home checks on sexual offenders when it was determined that Torres, a level 2 sexual offender, hasn’t been living at 6165 State Highway 7 in Colliersville since December.
Deputies’ investigation revealed that Torres had been staying in the Capital district area during the week and at 16 Luther St. in Oneonta on weekends, the release said.
Torres also had lived on state Route 7 in the town of Maryland in 2011 but failed to report that he moved to a county Route 45 residence in the town of Hartwick in December 2011 for a month before moving to Colliersville in January 2012.
Torres surrendered himself at the sheriff’s office Friday and was arrested on a sealed indictment warrant.
He was arraigned before Otsego County Court Judge Brian D. Burns and released pending a later court appearance, the release said.
If convicted, Torres faces up to eight years in prison.
