A Nineveh woman died in a motor vehicle accident that occurred Monday afternoon on Interstate 88, near the Exit 7 overpass in the town of Afton, state police at Sidney said.
The investigation so far revealed that at about 1:40 p.m., Noel K. Pike, 31, lost control of her vehicle while entering east from the Exit 7 ramp. Her vehicle traveled into the passing lane, where it was struck broadside by a tractor-trailer being operated by Gary A. Donovan, 52, of Johnson City.
She was declared dead at the scene, and Donovan was transported to Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Hospital in Johnson City and is listed in critical condition, troopers said. Pike’s passengers, Rayne E. Pike, 29, of Nineveh, and a 4-year-old child were also transported to Wilson for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, troopers said.
The investigation is continuing. Troopers were assisted with the investigation by the Afton Fire Department, state Department of Transportation and Department of Environmental Conservation.
