Woman held at knifepoint

COBLESKILL -- After a standoff, village police rescued a woman being held at knifepoint Sunday night by a 23-year-old local man, authorities said Tuesday.

Salvatore Fornabio, 23, was charged with first-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, unlawful imprisonment and menacing when he was arrested at 113 Elm St. in Cobleskill, village police said.

Police said officers were dispatched to the home after a 911 hang-up call followed minutes later by two more 911 calls.

When the officers arrived, Fornabio was threatening the woman with a knife and told them he would harm her if they did not leave, police said.

After Fornabio shoved the woman aside and the officers could see she was no longer being held, they entered the home and took him into custody, police said. No injuries were reported _ to the woman, Fornabio or the officers. Arraigned in Cobleskill Town Court, Fornabio was ordered held for lack of $15,000 bail.

In a separate case, village police reported they arrested a 12-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy on marijuana charges in connection with an incident at Golding Middle School. The girl was charged with selling the drug, and the boy was charged with possessing it.
