COMMENTING ON STORIES:

1. Create conversation on issues of interest and concern to fellow readers and local community members.
2. Express opinions and contrarian views.

Fair to commemorate 100 years of Girl Scouts

Area Girl Scouts are preparing to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts at the Delaware County Fair in August.

Local girls are invited to plant daisies at the fairgrounds to honor Girl Scout founder Juliette "Daisy" Low. Planting dates are scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday and 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 16; those who attend are asked to bring garden gloves and tools, and may bring their own plants.

On Aug. 14, local youth and adult Scouts are invited to march with the 100th anniversary Girl Scout float in the fireman's parade. Lineup is at 6:30 p.m. in the field between the ticket booths and the water treatment plant. The parade will begin at 7:30. Those marching should be in uniform or other Girl Scout clothing.

Aug. 15 has been declared Girl Scout Day at the fair. Girl Scout members ages 12 to 18 will be admitted free. Girl Scouts of all ages are encouraged to wear Girl Scout clothing.

During the fair, the Walton Historical Society will highlight Girl Scouting with a memorabilia display. There will be a Girl Scout photo display in the art building.

The theme is "What Girl Scouting means to me!" All members are invited to send in photos of Girl Scout activities with a caption that ties the activity to the theme. Photos should measure 4 by 6 inches and can be group or individual. For more information about sending in a photo, email srjennings@stny.rr.com.

There will be a Delaware County Adult Girl Scout Reunion from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Amahami Outdoor Center. All present and past volunteers and girl members are invited to attend. The reunion will include a meet and greet, a walking tour of camp and a historical display.
