Jefferson principal moving on

Jonathan Hillis, K-12 principal at Jefferson Central School, will leave the district in July to assume the principal position at Applebee Elementary School in the Marathon Central School District, according to a media release from the school.

His new job will begin Aug. 1.

Hillis joined the district in 2005 as an elementary teacher. He completed a yearlong administrative internship in 2008-09 and has served as the K-12 principal since Sept. 2009.

"Jefferson has been a terrific place to work, grow and call home," Hillis said in a media release. "The dedication shown by Jefferson's board, administration, faculty and staff is outstanding. I wish the district all the best in the future."

In the release, Jefferson Superintendent Carl Mummenthey called Hillis "an outstanding instructional leader of our K-12 programs for the past four years," adding, "We'll certainly miss him in September and extend our best wishes to him as he moves on to his new position."

The district recently launched a search for Hillis' successor. A committee of parents, students, faculty and staff will assist Mummenthey and the board of education in selecting a principal in time for the start of the next school year.

The deadline for applications is June 29, and a full vacancy announcement is available on the district's website at www.jeffersoncs.org.
