Two Oneonta women busted after traffic stop

Two Oneonta women were arrested May 17, one on possession of crack cocaine, following a traffic stop on I-88 in Worcester.

Crystal M. Montanez, 26, was charged with third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both felonies, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, deputies said. Kelly M. Abbes, 28, was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a misdemeanor.

The car Abbes was driving was stopped when a computer license check revealed her driver's license was suspended. Deputy Keith Sheldon saw drug paraphernalia during the stop and the following occurred, deputies said: Montanez was found to have nine grams of crack cocaine, 20 individual bags containing the drug, and a glass pipe with cocaine residue.

Abbes was issued a ticket at the scene and Montanez was arraigned in Worcester Town Court and sent to Otsego county jail on $25,000 bail. She faces up to nine years in prison if convicted, deputies said.

Oneonta police assisted in the investigation.
