Otsego sets hazard mitigation talk

Otsego County will hold a public meeting Tuesday as part of an ongoing effort to develop the 2012-13 Hazard Mitigation Plan update.

Consultant H2O Partners Inc. will facilitate the meeting and discuss the county's plan.

The meeting is scheduled for 8 to 11 a.m. in Classroom A at the Meadows Office Building at 140 County Highway 33 West in Cooperstown.

According to a media release, the meeting is to provide a project overview to those in attendance, and solicit information and feedback from area residents to identify and analyze hazards affecting the county.

Those who attend may also recommend possible actions that can be taken to reduce the impact of those hazards.

Information about the planning process and a public participation survey are available at www.otsegocounty.com/depts/pln.

The goal of the Hazard Mitigation Plan for Otsego County is to minimize or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from known hazards by identifying and implementing cost-effective mitigation actions.

"Mitigation" is defined by the Federal Emergency Management Agency as "sustained actions taken to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property from hazards and their effects."

Questions about the Hazard Mitigation Plan should be addressed to Cathy Meek of H2O Partners at (888) 328-4151, ext.2, or cathy@h2opartnersusa.com.
