Public comments on hydrofracking will be gathered at two meetings Saturday _ one in Norwich and the other in Delhi _ in efforts to meet a deadline response to a state environmental document.
In Delaware County, a meeting will be in the Okun Theatre in Farrell Hall at the State University College of Technology at Delhi from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Meredith town supervisor Keith Capouya and Larry Bennett, publicity director of Brewery Ommegang and a resident of Meredith, will moderate a hearing at which citizens will have an opportunity to comment about the state Department of Environmental Conservation's draft regulations for hydraulic fracturing.
Theater doors will open at 12:30 p.m. Presentations will be made in the order that speakers register and will be limited to three minutes, organizers said, and a court stenographer will transcribe comments, which will be prepared to meet the Wednesday deadline for comments.
Written comments also will be accepted.
Sponsoring groups of the Delhi meeting are AndesWorks!, Catskills Citizens for Safe Energy, CDOG/unnaturalgas.org, Citizens Energy & Economics Council, Davenport Concerned Citizens, Delaware-Otsego Audubon Society, Franklin Local, Sustainable Sidney and Sandford-Oquaga Concerned Citizens. Organizers said these organizations have formed to promote the economic, environmental and social well-being of the area.
In Norwich, Chenango County, a public "Comment-Writing Party on Hydrofracking" will be in the Community Room at the Guernsey Memorial Library at 3 Court St. from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Organizers said experts from Otsego County familiar with the draft Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement will be present to assist.
Comments may be written by hand or using a computer and will be printed for mailing that afternoon to meet the deadline, organizers said. For more information, call 334-2986.
This event is sponsored by Plymouth Friends of Clean Water.
