Fire destroys Worcester residence
Fire destroyed a residence in the town of Worcester on Saturday night, the fire chief said Sunday.
An unoccupied modular home at 961 Center Valley Road was "fully involved" by the time crews arrived, Worcester Fire Chief Jim Empie said. No one was hurt, he said, and the cause and origin of the blaze remain under investigation.
About 50 firefighters were at the scene, with crews from East Worcester, Schenevus, Westford, Oneonta and Charlotteville providing mutual aid to the Worcester department, Empie said. Water was shuttled from a pond about a mile away, he said, and 5 inches of snow that fell Saturday created poor road conditions.
The home was owned by David Fink, according to Empie, who said he believed the property was insured.
