Sidney set to kick off 24th Hometown Day Parade

By Mark Boshnack Staff Report A family tradition returns to Sidney on Saturday with the 24th Annual Sidney Federal Credit Union Hometown Day Parade. It starts at 1 p.m. at the high school parking lot. The route is about a mile a half, going down Main Street before turning on River Street ending at Keith Clark Park, Keith May, Sidney Federal Credit Union vice president of marketing said. Many local organizations will participate, including high school marching bands, floats, fire departments, antique vehicles, even a group of greyhounds. There are about 42 units in the lineup, he said. With about the same number as last year, "It's a nice day for the community to get out be part of a nice parade," he said. Credit Union employees will be walking with a banner that shows all the organizations they volunteer for. "It shows we give back to the communities we serve," he said. Sidney Mayor Andrew Matviak, who will riding in the parade said: "It's always an exciting time for us. It brings a lot of people into town." The parade traditionally honors the Chamber of Commerce's business of the year, which this year is NBT Bank, the citizen of the year -- Jacqlene Rose. Both were honored Friday at the chamber dinner. With local school bands fire departments participating, "it's nice to be able to see so many people be seen," Matviak said. Parking is prohibited on Main River streets starting 7 a.m. Saturday. Selected streets will be closed starting at 11 a.m. All streets are anticipated to reopen by 3 p.m., according to the Credit Union.
