Fire destroyed a home on Falclove Road in the town of Andes on Sunday, an official said Sunday night.
No one was hurt, said Dale Tait, an assistant chief with the Andes Fire Department. The single-floor ranch-style residence was home to Jim Darling and his significant other, whose name wasn't available, Tait said.
Information about the cause is pending an investigation by Delaware County fire investigators who were at the scene, Tait said.
The fire started in the basement probably early in the morning, Tait said. Darling's significant other was alerted by a smoke alarm in the basement, Tait said, and she went to get Darling, who had already gone to work on the farm his family owns across the road.
The fire was called in a little after 9 a.m.
Tait said the building was "totally involved" by the time crews arrived, and pumpers and hoses were set up to get water from a creek about 150 yards from the house. After the blaze was extinguished, crews monitored the scene for hot spots as fire investigators search the debris, he said.
About 30 firefighters responded with eight fire vehicles, Tait said. Delhi and Bloomville department crews were at the scene providing mutual aid.
Tait said the Andes department was back in service at about 1:45 p.m.
The residents are staying at the farm and declined assistance from the American Red Cross, Tait said.
