Hazmat team removes substance from Delhi facility

Four members of the county's hazmat team removed a substance from the Delhi water treatment facility Friday morning, Delaware County Emergency Services Director Richard Bell said.

They were called at about 7 a.m. in response to a chemical reaction in the fluoride treatment system. Two members were taken to O'Connor Hospital in Delhi for precautionary reasons. Bell was not informed that either had any further treatment.

The team was able to remove the unknown substance that will be returned to its supplier for testing, he said. The Delhi and Walton fire departments also responded to the Depot Street scene. They returned shortly before 1 p.m.
