Inmate arrested for felony

Staff Report

A jailed man was arrested on a felony drug charge, Otsego County deputies said Thursday.

Joseph Thomas Martinez, 35, was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, deputies said.

He was accused of selling heroin to another person in the town of Oneonta in March, deputies said, and was arrested after an investigation by the sheriff's Criminal Investigation Division and Oneonta police detectives.

Martinez, who was being held in the Otsego County jail on $25,000 on a charge of first-degree burglary in the city Oneonta, was arrested Tuesday afternoon, deputies said in a media release.

After arraignment on the drug charge before Otsego Town Judge James Wolff, he was returned to jail on $7,500 bail, pending appearance in court, deputies said. If convicted, Martinez could face up to nine years in prison.
