Laurens father, son charged in felony drug bust

Staff Report

A father and son were arrested in Laurens on Friday for growing marijuana in their home, Otsego deputies said.

Scott A. Amatuccio, 49, and Jason A. Amatuccio, 18, were charged with second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and growing of cannabis by an unlicensed person, both misdemeanors, deputies said.

A no-knock search warrant from Laurens Town Court was executed after a narcotics investigation, according to deputies.

Deputies said the following items were seized: more than a pound of loose marijuana; 53 marijuana plants in various stages of development; a quarter-ounce of concentrated cannabis; a 20-gauge Ithaca shotgun; growing equipment; two electronic digital scales; and $1,581 in currency.

The defendants were arraigned and sent to Otsego County jail on $3,000 bail, deputies said, and they are to appear Monday in Laurens Town Court.

Providing assistance in the search were Oneonta police, the state Division of Parole and county Probation Department, deputies said. If convicted, the two men face up to 21/2 years in state prison, deputies said.
