A Massachusetts man was arrested Monday after a trooper allegedly smelled marijuana in his car during a traffic stop in Delaware County.
A search of the man's car later revealed two large, plastic bags of psilocybin mushrooms, hypodermic needles and other drug paraphernalia, state police at Sidney said.
Psilocybin mushrooms are a hallucinogen. The amount of mushrooms was not released.
Alexander A. Martin III, 19, of Dudley, Mass., was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and driving while ability impaired by drugs and possession of a hypodermic instrument, both misdemeanors.
He was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
Martin was driving a 2005 Toyota Solara east on Interstate 88 at about 4:40 p.m. when he was stopped for speeding in the town of Sidney, troopers said.
The state police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team _ Southern Tier assisted with the investigation.
Martin was arraigned in Delhi Town Court, and he was sent to Delaware County jail without bail.
