Group offers adults jobs and training

Staff Report

Opportunities for Otsego is seeking local businesses to participate in the Wage Subsidy and Transitional Employment program, which provides training and employment for low-income adults.

According to a media release from OFO, the program offers stipends to participating businesses to pay wages for 30 hours a week for up to 90 days. Employers provide training, skill-building and job experience for program participants during that time.

At the end of the 90-day period, employers are asked to evaluate participants with the goal of offering permanent employment.

Opportunities for Otsego screens applicants for skills and interests, and connects them to employers. OFO also provides ongoing case management to address any work issues that may hinder successful employment.

Area companies that have signed on include At Home Care, Bugbee Children's Center, The Holiday Inn of Oneonta/Cooperstown, Mold-A-Matic Corp., The Otesaga Resort and Hotel, Sidney Federal Credit Union and Springbrook.

To become an employment site or for more information, contact Opportunities for Otsego employment counselor John Frisch at 434-6290 or jfrisch@ofoinc.org.

OFO is a member agency of the United Way of Delaware and Otsego Counties.
